Cambridge on Foot tour guides are local, fully qualified and experienced tour guides with a genuine passion for our city.

Cambridge on Foot was established by Dick Matthews, Jo Sharpington and Lizzie Griggs in 2017. We are passionate about our city and its history and love to share this with visitors from overseas, Britain and of course people who live locally.

All Cambridge on Foot guides are qualified Cambridge Tour Guides and are members of the Society of Cambridge Tour Guides. We are fully trained to the highest standards and have been examined by the Institute of Tourist Guiding. Only qualified Cambridge Tour Guides are permitted to take groups inside the colleges and hold third party public liability insurance.

Lizzie

Lizzie is a Cambridge girl, born and bred. She attended the Perse school and has a BA in French (her degree included a year studying at the University of Nice). After several summer and winter seasonal jobs in France, she worked in London in advertising and television, and eventually made her way back to Cambridge where she worked for a European holiday tour operator. Three grown-up children later, she owns and runs a vintage homeware shop in a nearby village. Lizzie offers tours in English and French. Lizzie says “I am passionate about Cambridge – it is a wonderful, vibrant, thoroughly contemporary city in a historic setting"

Jo

Jo settled in Cambridge in 2002 as a freelance consultant in gender, health and international development. She has a Master’s Degree in Education, International Development and Health Promotion from the Institute of Education in London. Her work has taken her to many countries in Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, South East Asia and the Americas. She grew up on the coast of North Wales but now has two Cambridge-born daughters. Jo is an associate of the Institute of Tourist Guiding and offers tours in English and French. Jo says: “I love being a Cambridge Tour Guide, particularly meeting people from all over the world and sharing the history and stories associated with this fascinating city”.

Dick

A life-long Cambridge resident, Dick began his education at St John’s College Choir School. He has been in love with the city and university ever since. Before qualifying as a tour guide Dick taught in Cambridge and nearby Suffolk. He has played and coached rugby locally and internationally. Dick was coach of the Cambridge University Rugby team, “The Blues”, from 2001 to 2010 helping them to beat Oxford, ‘the other place,’ six times. He also coached the Swedish team at the Women’s World Cup Finals in 2010. A true local, you will find him on the Real Tennis courts at Grange Road, out with his cycling club or in one of Cambridge’s many real ale pubs. Dick says “Cambridge has something to show everyone, with stories of famous people and events at every corner”
